  1. ALIEN ENVOY - An acrylic painting on a 9 x 12 canvas board, circa 2007 . A spare timer.

Strange things have occasionally happened to me and my artwork, like the colors that magically appeared and then disappeared on the "Dream of X" project. In this case I had been working on a spare time painting and had decided that it was finished, good enough, even though I was not really satisfied with the look of the girl's face and upper torso garment. I'll have to get back to her some day, I thought, before I sell it.

But I needed to get back to one of the commissions waiting to be done, so I took the painting outside to the back deck to spray it with a Krylon clear protective coating. I placed the painting on a wide section of the railing and started to do the required shaking of the spray can before using it. And while I was shaking the can and looking at the painting . . . SPLAT!

Some damned dirty bird flying overhead had bombarded my painting! Quickly, I ran into the kitchen to get some paper towels and some water and ran back out to clean the doo-doo off my painting. When I was finished with the cleaning I saw that the only harm done was where the girl's face and upper torso were located. It is hard to believe that that dirty bird had actually hit the center of the painting!

So, I had to repaint the girl and her upper garment, and when I was done I was much happier with how she looked. And now I wonder if fate had sent that bird to do what it did in order to make me go back and do a proper job with the girl!

However, I was not going to let some other dirty bird ever do that to me again, so from that time on I sprayed my artwork in the basement. But when I did, it always seemed like I heard someone laughing, outside, far away . . .
